How Many Rest Days Do You Need?

Why the structure matters more than the count
The right number of rest days isn't a fixed figure, it depends on how well nutrition and recovery are actually supporting the training being done. For most people training three times a week, the specific arrangement, two consecutive days off then alternating, consistently outperforms scattering rest days randomly across the week.
Why this pattern works well
Two consecutive days off gives genuine, uninterrupted recovery time, while the alternating pattern after that keeps stimulus regular without letting fatigue build unchecked. It's a simple structure that holds up well for most people at a standard training frequency.
