Why Recovery Matters More After 40

Francesco Zen, founder of ZTraining · Last updated June 19, 2026

What used to be invisible

In your twenties and thirties, the body absorbs a surprising amount of poor recovery without it showing. Performance holds, energy holds, body composition barely moves. That margin shrinks steadily with age, until the exact same week of poor sleep or stress shows up directly, in training, in mood, in results.

What this means for how you train

The fix isn't training less, it's treating recovery as a designed part of the protocol rather than something that happens by default. Sleep quality, stress management, and genuine rest between demanding sessions all need to be planned for, the same way training itself is.
